5, The Mouse Who Didn’t Do As She Was Told
Once upon a time deep in the heart of a forest hidden away from prying eyes there was a village of mice. Now these mice were not the kind of mice that we know. They were very special mice they wore clothes just like we do and they could speak like we do. In fact the were exactly like us. The little cottages were arranged in circles they were round at the base and had pointed roofs with little chimney pots that looked like they had been glued on the side. Each mouse painted their doors the colour they liked best so most of them were different in some way. There were pink doors and green ones even blue, there were two steps up to every door and each step had flower pots standing on them. The village looked very pretty It was summer and the sent of heavily perfumed flowers filled the air.
The sun shone down on the little village. From high above the surrounding tree, beams of light bounced off the little metal chimneys and made them glisten like precious jewels. The mice were very busy there was a lot to do during the summer months Some of the adults gathered berries and seeds to be stored for the long cold winter that wasn’t to far away. Other mice taught the younger ones much like our school teachers It’s time to leave now little ones the older mouse was saying. Run straight home now. There are many dangers around us even in our village hidden as it is. You have the rest of the summer off for winter will soon be here and you wont be able to play. One more thing said the grown up mouse don’t forget what I have told you about the huge monsters that roam outside our village. They all look slightly different but I have already shown you a picture of them. Do you remember what they are called. Cats replied the little mice. Well done now off you go and be very careful. Thoughts of being able to play outside filled them with excitement and it wasn’t long before they had forgotten all about cats, I haven’t told you anything about these monster cats yet have I, let me see where should I begin.
They are not very frightening to look at in fact they are quite handsome creatures really. There paws areas soft as velvet but they are also very deadly. Once a mouse has been touched by those velvet paws it’s very unlikely it will ever be the same again. If it survives that is. It’s coat can be long or short and different colours. There eyes can be green, yellow or blue. These eyes are very beautiful but once they have caught sight of a mouse the mouse cannot hide. There are one or two other things you should know about these cats. They have sharp teeth for biting and tearing flesh. The other thing is they have claws these are kept hidden until they are needed. Cats have tails too but they are the least of the poor mice troubles. The monster cats are very much bigger and many times stronger than the mice.
The golden sun had dropped lower and lower in the sky until it could no longer be seen and darkness engulfed the little village. It was time for the mice to sleep now, the family I’m going to tell you about live in number 78. There is a mother and father and two little mice called Tim and Tina. Tim is the oldest he likes to play eye spy and go off on adventures, exploring the area outside the village. Tina on the other hand liked to play with her toys but she all so liked to follow Tim and get in his way.
One day when the holidays were almost over and the mice had woken up Tim decided to go exploring it was a lovely day the sun hung in the sky like a yellow ball and there was a warm breeze making the tall grass sway from side to side. Don’t leave the street and don’t follow your brother Tina’s mother said just as Tina was closing the door behind her. That made Tina angry why should Tim always go on adventures thought Tina so she did the opposite of what she was told and she followed her brother into the corn field on the edge of the forest. At first Tina thought it was fun, she had never been so far away from home. Then suddenly something didn’t feel right the sky went black and she was frightened . She realized she was alone. Which way had she come there was something behind her she could feel it she was to frightened to look so she ran and ran. But she didn’t run far because there was something behind her it was a cat.
Tina turned round hoping she was imagining things, but there it was an enormous monster. She wanted to run but she couldn’t. The monster moved slowly it half crawled towards her His eyes mesmerized her closer and closer it crawled to her she could feel it’s warm breath on her body IT’s gaze never left her for a moment. The monster crouched keeping still for a moment. Then suddenly a paw lashed out. Tina felt a cushion of soft velvet touch her then as she took flight to escape another swipe, the monster opened it’s claws and caught her again. She felt her skin tear open again and again. She felt such pain that it made her want to sequel. She was frozen in time her body was covered in blood. Now she couldn’t feel the pain anymore the blows from the monster had taken her beyond physical pain.
She had to make her mind think it didn’t want to but if she was to survive, she had to make it. What had she been taught, then as some kind of machine had been switched on all by it’s self she knew what to do Tina felt cold so cold why didn’t the cat finish her off . The machine inside her head wasn’t about to let her die so easily. Before she knew what was happening she had fallen down a whole it was very deep so deep that the monster could not reach her. Many times it pushed it’s huge paw into the whole but Tina had fallen to far. The monster growled in anger but after a while it lost interest in her and went off looking for another victim. Tina lay still where she was for a while it was night now, she had met the cat and lived but life would never be the same again. There would be no more sunny days for Tina, fear lived with her from then on all because she didn’t do as she was told.
